Which sources Google's AI Overviews cite for construction AI searches
From October 21 to 29, 2026, Google showed an AI Overview in 133 of the 135 results pages we captured for five construction AI searches. YouTube was cited in 132 of those 133 overviews. The next most cited domains were togal.ai (62), reddit.com (57), mccormicksys.com (43), stackct.com (36). The overviews cited a median of 10 URLs each, from 100 distinct domains in all; 27 of those domains were cited only once.

Five English queries, three search profiles, one capture a day each. A count is the number of AI Overviews that cited a domain, out of the overviews captured; nothing is estimated or extrapolated beyond these captures.

The most cited domains
The table counts, for each domain, the overviews that cited at least one of its pages. Four of the fifteen are platforms where users post the content: youtube.com (132), reddit.com (57), facebook.com (28) and linkedin.com (25). At least one of the four was cited in 132 of the 133 overviews.
The other eleven are company and publisher sites. A domain's count depends heavily on which queries it is cited for: the next section splits them.
| Domain | Overviews citing it | Share of 133 |
|---|---|---|
| youtube.com | 132 | 99% |
| togal.ai | 62 | 47% |
| reddit.com | 57 | 43% |
| mccormicksys.com | 43 | 32% |
| stackct.com | 36 | 27% |
| trimble.com | 35 | 26% |
| countbricks.com | 29 | 22% |
| facebook.com | 28 | 21% |
| linkedin.com | 25 | 19% |
| documentcrunch.com | 24 | 18% |
| alicetechnologies.com | 23 | 17% |
| cmicglobal.com | 21 | 16% |
| datagrid.com | 21 | 16% |
| helium42.com | 21 | 16% |
| buildxact.com | 18 | 14% |
By query
Each query was captured 27 times (three profiles, 9 days). YouTube was cited by every overview for 4 of the 5 queries, and by 25 of 26 for "construction document ai". Beyond it, each query has its own set: the domains most cited for "ai agents for construction" do not appear in the top five of the estimating queries, and the reverse.
| Query | Overviews / captures | Distinct domains | Median URLs cited | Five most cited domains (overviews) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ai agents for construction | 27 / 27 | 30 | 11 | youtube.com (27), linkedin.com (22), alicetechnologies.com (21), cmicglobal.com (21), datagrid.com (21) |
| ai in construction estimating | 27 / 27 | 28 | 9 | youtube.com (27), togal.ai (21), mccormicksys.com (18), rsmeans.com (16), countbricks.com (14) |
| ai construction estimating software | 26 / 27 | 27 | 10 | youtube.com (26), stackct.com (24), facebook.com (20), reddit.com (18), togal.ai (18) |
| ai estimating software | 27 / 27 | 32 | 10 | youtube.com (27), togal.ai (23), trimble.com (21), helium42.com (17), buildxact.com (15) |
| construction document ai | 26 / 27 | 29 | 12 | youtube.com (25), documentcrunch.com (23), blueprints-ai.com (16), reddit.com (15), inspectmind.ai (13) |
By search profile
The three profiles returned overviews of the same length (a median of 10 URLs each). YouTube was cited in nearly every overview on all three. Reddit was cited in 20 of 45 overviews on US desktop, 22 of 45 on US mobile and 15 of 43 on the France profile.
| Profile | Overviews / captures | Median URLs cited | Citing youtube.com | Citing reddit.com |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| United States, desktop | 45 / 45 | 10 | 44 of 45 | 20 of 45 |
| United States, mobile | 45 / 45 | 10 | 45 of 45 | 22 of 45 |
| France, desktop, English results | 43 / 45 | 10 | 43 of 43 | 15 of 43 |
Where miragemetrics.com appears
Mirage Metrics publishes pages written for these five queries, so its own domain is shown here apart from the others. miragemetrics.com was cited in 5 of the 133 overviews: 4 times for the post on AI construction estimating software and once for the construction page.
| Date | Query | Profile | Page cited |
|---|---|---|---|
| October 21, 2026 | ai in construction estimating | United States, desktop | /blog/ai-construction-estimating-software/ |
| October 21, 2026 | ai in construction estimating | United States, mobile | /blog/ai-construction-estimating-software/ |
| October 22, 2026 | ai in construction estimating | France, desktop, English results | /blog/ai-construction-estimating-software/ |
| October 24, 2026 | ai estimating software | France, desktop, English results | /blog/ai-construction-estimating-software/ |
| October 27, 2026 | ai agents for construction | France, desktop, English results | /construction |
Method
Every day, a script Mirage runs requests the Google results page for each tracked query from DataForSEO's SERP API (Google organic, live, advanced mode, 20 results deep, with the AI Overview loaded) for three profiles: United States in English on desktop, United States in English on mobile, and France with English-language results on desktop. That is one request per query, profile and day. The answer, its sources and the organic results are saved as returned.
The five queries are the construction queries Mirage tracks because its own pages are written for them: "ai agents for construction" (tracked since October 7, 2026), "ai in construction estimating", "ai construction estimating software", "ai estimating software" and "construction document ai" (since October 21). This study uses the 9 days all five share, October 21 to 29, 2026: 135 captures, 133 with an AI Overview. The 2 without one were both on the France profile ("ai construction estimating software", October 24, 2026; "construction document ai", October 26, 2026).
A URL counts as cited by an overview when it appears in the overview's source list, for the whole answer or for one of its blocks, or behind a numbered citation link in its text. Both are read because from October 17 the desktop captures returned a top-level source list of three entries in all but one capture while the text carried six to fifteen distinct citation links: the top-level list alone undercounts desktop.
A domain counts once per overview, however many of its pages that overview cites. Hosts are grouped under their registrable domain (www. and m. removed, blogs.oracle.com counted as oracle.com); the dataset keeps the full host and URL.
Every figure on this page is computed by a script from the dataset below. None is typed by hand.
Limits
- Five queries chosen by Mirage, not a sample of construction searches. The figures describe what these five overviews cited, not what AI Overviews cite in construction in general.
- One request per query, profile and day is one sample. Google can answer the same query differently within a day, from one person to another, by precise location and by signed-in state; a person searching may see another overview, or none.
- The captures are what DataForSEO's crawler received from Google, not what a particular person saw.
- 9 days. Counts over a longer period can differ: the companion study follows one of the five queries over 23 days.
- A citation is not a click, a ranking or an endorsement. This dataset says nothing about traffic, nor about the quality of the pages cited.
- Mirage is an interested party: it publishes pages for these queries and works to have them cited.
Dataset
The file holds every capture of the five queries from October 7 to 29, 2026, which covers both studies: 177 captures, 1,887 rows. One row per cited URL per capture, and one row for a capture without an AI Overview. CSV, UTF-8, comma separated.
| Column | What it holds |
|---|---|
| date | Day of the capture, YYYY-MM-DD |
| query | The search, as typed |
| profile | us-desktop, us-mobile or fr-desktop (France, English results) |
| ai_overview | yes if the results page carried an AI Overview |
| citation_order | Order of first appearance of the URL in the capture |
| url | The cited URL, without its #fragment |
| host | Host name, www. and m. removed |
| domain | Registrable domain, the unit counted on this page |
| in_source_list | yes if the URL is in the overview's source list |
| in_citation_marker | yes if the URL is behind a numbered citation link in the text |
| google_redirect | yes for a google.com/goto link with no readable destination (none in this window) |
